Last December, without warning, Beyonce shocked us all and changed the music game forever when she “surprise-dropped” her 5th studio album on Friday the 13th with no promotion. What more could be expected from the ever evolving Queen B herself?
As a follow up to her hit single Drunk In Love, B has released Pretty Hurts.
With lyrics like “Pretty hurts, we shine the light on whatever’s worst. Perfection is a disease of a nation, pretty hurts” the song challenges mainstream notions of what is beautiful and highlights the extreme pressure mainstream society places on young women to look beautiful. Gracing Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2014, Bey revealed that as part of the promotion of the song she’s launching a social media movement to ignite discussions on how we view beauty.
As of this morning, Beyoncé’ is encouraging her fans and followers to tag their Twitter and Instagram photos #whatispretty to “join the conversation” about “what the word means to you.”
What does “pretty hurts” mean to you? Do you like the song/have you seen the video?
